RocketReach alternatives: which tool finds local businesses and their verified emails?

RocketReach is a database of professionals: you know whose email you want, and it looks it up. If that's your job, the nearest alternatives are Apollo (contacts and sequences in one seat), Lusha (direct dials from a browser extension), Hunter.io (emails at a company's domain, with a published verifier) and ZoomInfo (enterprise data on contract). If your targets are local businesses that list themselves on Google Maps rather than people on LinkedIn, Lyre Leads, which we make, finds them by keyword across a city, reads each website and verifies every address. Every competitor fact below links to the vendor's own page.

RocketReach and five alternatives, compared

Prices, free tiers and verification as each vendor states them on its own site. RocketReach sets prices by the visitor's country, so its row shows the US price. The last column is our judgement.

Which RocketReach alternative costs less?

RocketReach's monthly Essentials plan is $69 in the US for 100 email lookups a month, and a lookup is charged only when a verified email or phone comes back. Its yearly plans are "unlimited" with a fair-use cap of 10,000 lookups a month, but cap exports per year. Prices differ by the country you visit from.

Each alternative counts in its own unit, so compare what a month buys. Apollo's Basic plan is $65 a seat billed monthly for 2,500 credits, with an email costing 1 credit and a phone number 8. Lusha's Starter is $49.90 for 400 credits, 1 per email and 5 per phone. Hunter.io's Starter is $49 for 2,000 credits, 1 per email found. ZoomInfo quotes its platform privately, though its GTM.AI arm sells API access pay as you go from $20. Lyre Leads is $39 for 7,500 leads, where a lead is a business found; named contacts cost 2 tokens each and are charged only when one is found.

Which gives verified emails?

  • RocketReach grades each email A, A-, B or F and charges only for A and A- grades; it describes the method only as testing each address multiple ways.
  • Hunter.io publishes its verifier's checks, including an SMTP mailbox check and its own method for catch-all domains.
  • Lusha describes SMTP mailbox, catch-all and role checks, and states 98% email accuracy.
  • Apollo labels each email verified, catch-all or unverified, and quotes 98%, 91% and over 90% accuracy on different pages.
  • ZoomInfo states a 96% email deliverability rate without per-email labels on its public pages.
  • Lyre Leads checks every address it finds at the mailbox, through MillionVerifier, and labels catch-all addresses rather than counting them as verified.

Accuracy figures from different vendors measure different things, so they can't be lined up against each other; we explain why in what email accuracy numbers actually measure.

Which one finds local businesses?

RocketReach, Lusha and ZoomInfo search stored databases of professionals and companies, and none of them says how well it covers small local businesses. Apollo adds a Google Maps search on paid plans that shows up to 60 businesses a search. Hunter.io indexes the public web, which favours businesses with substantial websites.

Lyre Leads starts from Google Maps, where local businesses list themselves. You type a keyword such as "roofing contractor" or "med spa", and in complete coverage mode it searches the city from many overlapping points. In our test of 24 trade-and-city pairs that found about 2.2 times as many businesses as one paged Maps search in the median city (method and numbers). Each business is then checked against your keyword from its own website.

When is RocketReach still the better choice?

When you've already found the person, perhaps on LinkedIn or in the news, and want their email or direct phone. RocketReach says it covers 700M+ professionals, offers phones on its +Phone plans, includes an API and an MCP server on every paid plan (MCP on free accounts too, with a ChatGPT plugin), and on monthly plans lets unused lookups roll over for up to 12 months while you're subscribed. For recruiting and account-based outreach to named people, it does the job well.

When is Lyre Leads the wrong choice?

  • You want a specific person's direct phone. We give the business phone from its Google listing; we don't sell personal numbers.
  • Your targets are professionals at companies that aren't on Google Maps, such as software firms or enterprises.
  • You search by job title. We search by what a business is, then find the people behind it on request.

The two also work in sequence: find and qualify the local businesses with Lyre Leads, then look up a named owner's direct line in a contact database where one isn't published.

How do you test them before you pay?

Pick the market you actually sell to. If it's named people at companies you can list, run 50 of them through RocketReach and the alternative and compare how many come back with an email that passes a mailbox check. If it's local businesses, pick one trade in one city, pull it from each tool, remove duplicates by name and street address, and count what each found and how many addresses verified.
