What a raw Google Maps scraper gives you
A scraper extracts the fields that exist in a Google Maps listing and puts them in rows: business name, address, phone number, website URL, category, star rating, review count, opening hours. Run it on "electrician" in a metro area and you get a spreadsheet of electricians, usually within minutes, usually cheaply.
That output has real value. The businesses are real, the phone numbers mostly work, and because the businesses maintain their own listings, the data is fresher than any purchased database compiled last quarter. A scraper is not a scam. It is a narrow tool that does one job: turning a map into a table.
The important thing is to be precise about what is in that table. Notice one absence in the field list above: there is no email column, because Google Maps has no email field. Any scraper showing emails is doing something beyond scraping Maps, and what exactly it is doing is worth interrogating, which we will do below.
When a raw scraper is genuinely enough
An honest comparison page has to include this section, so here it is. Skip the platform and use a plain scraper when:
- You need a one-off list of names for a defined project. Mapping competitors in a territory, counting businesses in a category, feeding a market-sizing exercise. If nobody will email these businesses, contactability does not matter.

What the rows do not answer
For everyone else, the trouble starts after the export. The spreadsheet lands, the team opens it, and three questions surface that no listing field can answer.
Is there an email, and is it alive? The rows have no email. Tools that bolt one on either scraped it from the business website or generated a pattern guess, and most do not tell you which. Even genuinely scraped, business-published emails go stale: in our own measurement, about 1 in 12 scraped emails is dead (n=700, our measurement, July 2026). Send to a list carrying that dead weight without verification and the bounces damage your sending domain, which is a cost no per-row price ever includes.
Who runs the business? A listing names the business, not the person. Outreach to "info@" is outreach to a shared inbox. Reaching the owner or a named decision-maker takes contact discovery on the website and, where no personal address is published, pattern generation with SMTP verification behind it. Rows do not do that.
Is the business a fit? The rating and review count hint at size, and nothing in the rows says whether the business runs the software you integrate with, spends on ads, has a maintained website, or matches your ideal customer in any respect. A thousand rows with no fit signal is not a pipeline, it is homework.
